Linda Howe Ely

At the beginning of May I went with two friends to Club Mykonos, a Greek style resort on the Cape west coast. We had a lot of fun and sketched at a few scenic spots in the area. It’s an attractive spot for artists.

I went on a hiking trip to the Cedarberg last month. It’s a place of special beauty, with many strange rock formations. I took a lot of photos as reference for future paintings and did a couple of sketches.

My husband and I spent two nights in this lovely Western Cape coastal town last week, and I did this sketch from the Old Harbour, which is a landmark and tourist attraction in Hermanus.

Our hiking group held their last outing of the year under a copse of pine trees on the side of Signal Hill. It’s called a “cocktail hike” as we hike for a very short distance and carry drinks and snacks. We all chat and watch the sun go down over the sea before we walk back. I was rather antisocial as I couldn’t resist sketching the view of Table Mountain from this spot.

I recently did the Otter Trail and managed to do a sketch of the view from one of the huts.
